Timeline Project 2015

We are currently studying how cultural traditions are celebrated throughout the regions of the United States of America.
Throughout this Social Studies unit, our students are learning how family traditions and customs are passed from generation to generation.

We are asking students to reflect on traditions that have been established & celebrated within their homes by creating a timeline that highlights 5 special events from their 2015 year.

Project Description:
Students are to create a timeline that highlights 5 important events from 2015.

Timeline Events Must Include:
·        Child’s Birthday
·        2 Family Traditions
·        2 Important Personal/Family Events

Each Event Must Include:
·        The Date of the Event
·        A Photograph/Illustration of Event
·        A  One-Two Sentence Description of the Tradition/Event

Construction:
The timeline should be well organized with dates/events in proper order. All illustrations/writing should be neatly written or drawn by student. Please see attached rubric for grading details.

This project will receive a test grade in Social Studies and Language Arts for the 2nd Nine Weeks.

Weather Research

Over the past few weeks, we have been studying different types of weather.  We have looked at weather tools, we have recorded the weather, we have predicted the weather, and we have researched severe weather.  The students created a weather poster on their type of severe weather and then created a PSA to present their information.  Below you will see their PSAs.

Thanksgiving Week

I will not be sending a newsletter home Monday, so I have several reminders for next week.

  • Totem Pole projects are due Monday. Remember the rubric is on the back so you can see how they will be graded.
  • They will be filming their Severe Weather PSAs on Tuesday, so some of them may have something they’re wanting to bring or wear for their video, so do not let them forget those items so they will be ready to go with their group.
  • Today, I sent home a note about bringing in a photograph to go with a paragraph they are going to be writing about a family Winter or Christmas tradition. Talk with your child about their favorite Christmas or Winter Tradition and please send in the picture on Monday.
  • The final day to send in money for the Clemson/Carolina Challenge is Monday. Right now we have raised approximately $84.  This is awesome!!!  The class that raises the most gets a movie party!!
  • Field trip permission slips/$7 are due Tuesday.

I hope you all have a fabulous, safe weekend!! And if I don’t see you or speak to you before Thanksgiving, have a blessed, safe holiday with your family!
