Student Led Conference Schedule

The schedule for Student Led Conferences is linked below.

What effect does the wind have on objects?

Today we learned a lot about the wind.   We also made paper airplanes and saw how the wind helped the airplanes to travel farther.  We will use this information as we learn about storms and safety procedures during storms.

Below you will find how some of the airplanes were created and the students' thoughts on our experiment.

Aiden:  i won 2 times!!!

Lilly:  first I got a peice of paper and then I folded it long wase. I foided the cornor and again I folded it.  I put a paper clip on it to hold it together.

Matthew:  My airplane flew beter in the wind than without.

Ashlyn: My first airplane would not fly so I had to make a new one.

Yesterday I sent home information about our pumpkin book report.  Below you will find the directions, the book report form, and a sample of the book report.  I hope this is a fun experience with your child!!

Adding on a Number Line

Today we worked on adding two digit numbers on a number line.  We are working on counting by our tens and ones instead of trying to count by ones on the number line.  Below you will see a video which will help if your child is having trouble.

Tweet, Tweet, Tweet

Today I introduced a new forum to our students.  We became "tweeters"!!!!  The students began tweeting their wonders today and have already received many responses.   Be sure to check out and follow us @mrsmcabeeatoes.   You can also follow our feed on the right hand side of the blog.  Students can tweet from home if you have a Twitter account but they have been told to be sure only to do it with parent supervision!!   If they decide to tweet from home, be sure to tag our class (@mrsmcabeeatoes), the school (#OESChat), and @Wonderopolis (if it's a wonder).   We are planning to tweet about things we do in class as well.

The Best Day Ever

It has been an awesome day!!!  It all started with a launch to our Weather PBL.   The students of second grade were given the opportunity to FaceTime with Chris Justus from WYFF News Channel 4.
He gave them a tour of the newsroom, showing them what goes on the behind the scenes.

Then students were allowed to ask questions.

When we came back to the classroom we wrote in our journal about our experience.  The students also created a list of wonders about weather that they now have after our time with him.   This was an awesome experience!!!!

At lunch today, our first Boosterthon prizes were given out!!!

If you haven't registered please go to www.funrun.com to receive you wristband.   Also remember to get as many pledges as possible!!!

The last part of our day was spent in the Wonder Room with a scientist from the Watershed Ecology Center at USC Upstate.

The kids learned about animal habitats and animal needs.   They also were able to view some cool animal artifacts.

But this best part was seeing and holding a REAL salamander!!!
They then designed a habitat for a drawing of a salamander.

Be sure to talk with your child all about what we did today!!!
